Bad gas.  Siphon out as much as you can, put in a bottle of injector cleaner and 5 gallons of fresh gas.  Might want to spray some carb & choke cleaner in the intake.  Turn it over a couple of times to get it primed (don't smoke the starter though).  If it starts running after that, it might take a few minutes to smooth out, but you should be good.

Some "Starter" spray might help, you just spray it in the intake to help ignition if the fuel isn't quite flowing yet.

If that doesn't work;
1) Make sure all wiring is connected and not corroded or broken.
2) Check for spark, use Bently throubleshooting proceedures, something like this: 2a) make sure plugs & cables are good  2b) check the rotor and cap for cracking & carbon  2c) test coil  2d) check ignition control module mounted on top of the Digi -- only way I know is to swap with a good one.
3) Pull the injectors and make sure they're clean.  Putting a little bit of SeaFoam in the fuel rail might help
4) Replace the fuel filter
5) Check fuel pressure, hope that lines aren't gummed up from the old gas.

Other than that, I'd go by Bentley troubleshooting instructions.

battery.  make sure it's a new one.

I let my GTi sit in storage for an entire year while I was in korea.  It sat in a storage room in Nebraska during one of their worst winters in history.  Did everything to start it, and it initially sounded as if the engine was locked up.  Called a guy at the vw dealer, and he said that it was unlikely the engine would lock up from only sitting a year.  So, I towed it to a gas station my friend worked at, told him the issue, and left it.  15 minutes later, he called and said my car was fixed.  It was simply the battery.  Ever since then, I never worry about letting my car sit for long periods of time.

Bad battery will keep it from running, once you disconnect the jupers.

Maybe I misunderstood; is it "fireing" and dying, or just turning over with the starter and never "fireing"?

Let's move this to the tech forums.

fuel pumps wont prime if i spray starts fluid into the intake it will fire up then die. so it getting air and fire just no fuel.

i checked the relay it click on then off like its suposed to
i jumped the relay to turned the pump coninually still nothin

car running b4 sitting supposedly

but neither pump comes on at all. im leaning toward pumps being bad , i hope not. or ecu.

i just weary about it because both pumps takin a turn for the worst doesnt seems like to me, but im new to this what do i know.

If it's not bad gas, spark, or a clog, then let the Bentley be your guide.

Well start with your basics make sure your fuse and relay are both good.  Your testing proves you have spark so take that  off the table.  I would jump the relay or run hot to to the fuel pump (external) as the internal pump tends to fail less. Try tapping the pump a couple of times, you may have debris in there gumming up the works.  If it is the external pump let me know which one it is I have a brand new one siting here. Its the external pump that fits into the plastic box.

That sucks!  It's always a bitch when there's more than one thing broken, esp. when it's 3 electrical parts.
